Avalanche at a glance
Three chains and near-instant finality
Avalanche splits the work across three chains: the X-Chain for exchanging assets, the Ethereum-compatible C-Chain (EVM) for contracts, and the P-Chain that coordinates validators. Its "Snowman/Avalanche" consensus family reaches finality in under a second, without the confirmation waits of other networks.
Subnets: custom blockchains
Avalanche’s distinctive feature are subnets (now L1s): anyone can launch their own blockchain with its own rules, fee token and even access control, backed by the network’s validators. They are used for games, institutional finance and tokenized assets that need their own environment.
AVAX: staking, burning and its risk
AVAX is used for staking (validating requires locking 2,000 AVAX), paying fees and creating subnets, and network fees are burned, reducing supply with usage. Its value depends on that subnet ecosystem continuing to attract real activity, which competes with many other EVM chains.

Use DeFi apps with fast confirmation
