Ethereum settles high-value transactions on a rollup-centric roadmap, while Solana runs a single high-throughput chain optimised for cheap, fast transactions — weigh fee levels, TVL and uptime history alongside the price ratio.
Ethereum scales by relying on layer-2 networks that settle on its main chain, prioritizing security and decentralization. Solana pursues maximum speed directly on its layer-1, with thousands of transactions per second. It is "scaling in layers" versus "scaling on one very fast chain".
Developers do not build the same way on both. Ethereum uses the EVM and the Solidity language, a standard copied by many chains. Solana uses its own runtime with contracts in Rust and a different account model. They are separate, non-interchangeable technical ecosystems.
Ethereum has not suffered major network outages and hosts the largest DeFi ecosystem. Solana offers tiny fees and great speed, but has had several historical outages and its validators require powerful hardware. It is reliability versus performance, a trade-off to weigh by use case.
