Cardano is built on academic research: its Ouroboros consensus protocol was published in peer-reviewed papers before implementation, and its development prioritizes formal verification over shipping speed. That deliberate method is its hallmark, though it also means a slower roadmap than other chains.
Delegated staking without lock-up
In Cardano you can delegate your ADA to a "stake pool" to help secure the network and earn rewards without giving up custody or locking the funds: the ADA stays in your wallet and you can move it whenever you want. It is a different participation model from chains where staking means locking tokens up.
Hydra and the scalability challenge
To scale, Cardano is developing Hydra, a layer-2 solution that batches transactions off the main chain ("heads") while keeping layer-1 security. Its DeFi ecosystem has historically been smaller than that of other smart-contract platforms, and its value depends on that on-chain activity growing.

Earn rewards by delegating to a pool
