From MATIC to POL
POL is Polygon’s native token after the migration from MATIC, largely completed through 2024-2025 at a 1:1 rate. It is used to pay gas and stake on Polygon PoS. If you hold old MATIC, it is worth checking it has been migrated, since the network now runs on POL.
Designed to secure many chains (AggLayer)
Unlike MATIC, POL was designed so a single validator can secure several Polygon-ecosystem chains at once, unified by the AggLayer, the layer meant to connect networks so they behave as one. It is the centerpiece of the "Polygon 2.0" vision.
Annual emission, no fixed cap
POL’s tokenomics include an emission of around 2% per year over a decade, split between validator rewards and a community treasury. Unlike fixed-supply assets such as Bitcoin, this means a programmed inflation worth understanding when assessing the token over the long term.
