What is "gas" and why do Ethereum fees change?

On Ethereum every operation consumes "gas," priced in gwei (billionths of an ETH). The more people compete to get transactions included, the higher gas rises, so fees fluctuate with network demand: a simple transfer is cheap, but interacting with complex DeFi contracts can be expensive when the network is congested.

Can you stake Ethereum?

Yes. Since Ethereum switched to proof of stake (The Merge, 2022), you can stake ETH to help validate the network and earn rewards.
