What is the LINK token used for?

LINK is used to pay the node operators who gather and deliver the data, and as collateral (staking) that incentivizes honesty: if they provide bad information, they can lose part of what they staked. Its utility is tied to real demand for oracle services, not to paying fees on a network of its own.

Chainlink launched staking (v0.2) with a capped allocation, on the order of tens of millions of LINK, aimed at reinforcing the security of its oracle services.
