An attacker exploited a vulnerability in Bitrue’s internal risk-review process to access the funds of about 90 users and the platform’s hot wallet, withdrawing 9.3 million XRP and 2.5 million ADA (~$4.5m). The company reimbursed affected users.

An exploit on one of Bitrue’s hot wallets let an attacker withdraw assets worth around $23m in ETH, QNT, GALA, SHIB, HOT and MATIC. Bitrue said the affected wallet held less than 5% of its total reserves and pledged to fully compensate affected users.

Its subsidiary Bitrue Lithuania UAB obtained a virtual asset service provider (VASP) registration with Lithuania’s anti-money-laundering unit (FNTT), an AML compliance filing that Bitrue itself presented as a step towards applying for the MiCA CASP licence, not the licence itself.
