Internet Computer’s ambition is for applications (including the front-end and data) to run directly on-chain, without traditional cloud servers. Code is deployed in units called "canisters" that combine logic and storage, a different approach from most blockchains.
Chain-key and "reverse gas"
Its "chain-key" cryptography enables fast finality and lets applications interact with one another. It also uses a "reverse gas" model: users do not pay fees; instead developers top up "cycles" to cover compute, aiming for an experience closer to the traditional web.
Governance through the NNS
The network is governed by the Network Nervous System (NNS): those who lock ICP in "neurons" vote on decisions and earn rewards, with more weight the longer the lock-up. It is a young, technically ambitious network; its value depends on that model attracting developers and real applications.
