Kaspa is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency that implements the GHOSTDAG protocol. Unlike traditional blockchains, GHOSTDAG allows for secure operation while maintaining very high block rates and minuscule confirmation times similar to internet latency.

A blockDAG instead of a linear chain
Kaspa does not organize its blocks in a single chain but in a blockDAG (directed acyclic graph of blocks): several blocks can be created in parallel and coexist instead of being discarded as "orphan" blocks. This design lets it produce blocks at much higher speed without sacrificing proof-of-work security, its main technical differentiator.
The GHOSTDAG protocol and 10 blocks per second
The heart of Kaspa is GHOSTDAG, a consensus protocol that orders all those parallel blocks into a coherent sequence instead of picking a single chain. After the Crescendo upgrade, activated in May 2025, the network moved to producing 10 blocks per second, with a long-term goal of scaling further. That speed aims for near-instant confirmations while keeping PoW mining.
A fair launch, no premine or ICO
Kaspa launched in 2021 with a "fair launch": no premine, no founder allocation and no prior investment round (ICO), so all coins are issued through open mining. Its issuance follows its own decreasing schedule with smooth monthly reductions. It is a relatively young and highly volatile project, and this is not advice.
