The mission of the Ondo Foundation is to usher in a new era of financial inclusion and market efficiency through blockchain-based institutional financial products and services. The Ondo Foundation (formerly known as the Neptune Foundation) was founded in 2022 as an independently governed, not-for-profit Cayman Islands foundation company with no beneficial owners. The Ondo Foundation assisted in the launch of the Ondo DAO, which deployed and currently governs Flux Finance, the first lending protocol that supports tokenized securities as collateral. In the middle of this year, the Ondo Foundation, through its affiliates, sold ONDO tokens to more than 18,000 individuals through CoinList. ONDO token holders are charged with shaping the future of the Ondo DAO to continue its mission of democratizing access to institutional-grade finance. The Ondo DAO grants ONDO holders specific rights relating to Flux Finance, which is currently governed by the Ondo DAO.

Ondo Finance is a real-world-asset (RWA) project focused on bringing US government debt on-chain. Its flagship products are OUSG, backed by short-term US Treasuries, and USDY, a yield-bearing token backed by Treasury bills and bank deposits. The idea is for traditional instruments to earn interest in tokenized form, 24/7.
ONDO is the governance token, not the yield asset
Do not confuse them: the Treasury yield is paid by OUSG and USDY, not by the ONDO token. ONDO is the ecosystem's governance and utility token, tied to protocol decisions and functions like staking or discounts. Its price is volatile and moves with the market, unlike the stable RWA tokens backed by the debt.
Restricted access and regulatory risk
Ondo's products carry legal restrictions: OUSG targets accredited investors and "qualified purchasers", and USDY excludes US persons from primary issuance. By moving government debt on-chain, the project sits close to securities regulation: the SEC closed its investigation into Ondo in November 2025, a factor worth watching closely.
