Aptos’s distinctive technical feature is Block-STM, an engine that runs transactions in parallel rather than one by one, detecting conflicts and reprocessing only what is needed. Together with its fast-finality BFT consensus (under a second), it aims for high sustained throughput without sacrificing safety.
APT, unlocks and competition
APT is used to pay fees, stake and take part in governance. Because it is a young network (launched in late 2022), a large share of the supply was reserved for investors and the team with scheduled unlocks, a dilution factor to watch. It also competes directly with other high-throughput chains such as Solana.
