Diem heritage and the Move language
Aptos was created by former engineers of the Diem project (the blockchain Meta backed) and uses Move, a contract language designed for safety: it treats assets as "resources" that cannot be copied or accidentally lost, cutting out a whole class of bugs common on other chains.
Parallel execution with Block-STM
Aptos’s distinctive technical feature is Block-STM, an engine that runs transactions in parallel rather than one by one, detecting conflicts and reprocessing only what is needed. Together with its fast-finality BFT consensus (under a second), it aims for high sustained throughput without sacrificing safety.
APT, unlocks and competition
APT is used to pay fees, stake and take part in governance. Because it is a young network (launched in late 2022), a large share of the supply was reserved for investors and the team with scheduled unlocks, a dilution factor to watch. Aptos executes transactions in parallel with an engine called Block-STM, which processes many operations at once by spreading them across multiple cores and resolving conflicts afterward. In lab benchmarks that design has reached very high transactions-per-second figures; real-world throughput depends on load and network conditions.
Yes. Aptos runs on Proof of Stake with a Byzantine-fault-tolerant (BFT) consensus variant: you can take part in staking to help secure the network and become eligible for rewards. As in any PoS network, those rewards are not guaranteed, depend on network parameters, and the APT token remains volatile.
APT serves three concrete roles in the network: paying transaction (gas) fees, taking part in the staking that secures the chain and voting in Aptos on-chain governance. Its utility is tied to the network's operation and activity, an ecosystem still young compared with veteran smart-contract platforms.
Aptos was founded by former members of the team that built Diem, Meta's (formerly Facebook) blockchain project, which was ultimately shelved. From it Aptos inherits the Move language and much of its technical approach. That origin is its hallmark, though it does not by itself guarantee network adoption; it is a volatile asset and this is not advice.
