Why look for a Bitrue alternative?

You buy XRP on Bitrue for flat fees — then find the XRP/USDT pair costs twice what BTC/USDT does, while the platform remains outside ESMA’s CASP register. That clash pushes euro-based users toward a European alternative.

Bitrue is a global exchange founded in 2018 in Singapore, known for its XRP ecosystem and flat fees. With MiCA in force in the EEA, every provider serving the EU needs CASP authorisation; Bitrue only registered a Lithuanian VASP AML filing in 2024, not a MiCA licence. We compare Bit2Me and Bitrue with public sources.

What leads people to look for an alternative

Why so many people doubt Bitrue

No MiCA CASP: only a Lithuanian VASP

Bitrue is not listed in ESMA’s CASP register. Its 2024 Lithuanian VASP registration is an AML filing, not the MiCA licence the EU requires with MiCA in force.

Two security incidents with stolen funds

Bitrue suffered hacks in 2019 ($4.5m in XRP and ADA) and 2023 ($23m in ETH and other tokens). Both were reimbursed, but no proof-of-reserves (PoR) has been published.

Higher fee precisely on XRP pairs

Bitrue charges a flat 0.098% on most pairs, but up to 0.196%–0.280% on XRP pairs — the very asset its ecosystem is named after.

Public record

Reputation and documented facts about Bitrue

Sanctions, incidents or controversies recorded in official sources or verifiable media. Bit2Me does not pass judgment: we cite public facts.

  1. An attacker exploited a vulnerability in Bitrue’s internal risk-review process to access the funds of about 90 users and the platform’s hot wallet, withdrawing 9.3 million XRP and 2.5 million ADA (~$4.5m). The company reimbursed affected users.

    Source: coindesk.com

  2. An exploit on one of Bitrue’s hot wallets let an attacker withdraw assets worth around $23m in ETH, QNT, GALA, SHIB, HOT and MATIC. Bitrue said the affected wallet held less than 5% of its total reserves and pledged to fully compensate affected users.

    Source: support.bitrue.com

  3. Its subsidiary Bitrue Lithuania UAB obtained a virtual asset service provider (VASP) registration with Lithuania’s anti-money-laundering unit (FNTT), an AML compliance filing that Bitrue itself presented as a step towards applying for the MiCA CASP licence, not the licence itself.

These records do not rule out the competitor being suitable in other contexts; they are part of the due diligence worth doing before depositing funds.

Verdict

Bitrue is not listed in ESMA’s CASP register: only a Lithuanian VASP since 2024, two reimbursed hacks (2019 and 2023) with no published PoR and a 1.5/5 Trustpilot score. If you trade XRP and accept that risk outside MiCA → Bitrue. If you need a verifiable CNMV CASP, free SEPA and a phone line in your language → Bit2Me.

Bitrue after the 2026 MiCA deadline: a Lithuanian VASP is not a European CASP

With MiCA in force in the EEA, the regulation requires CASP authorisation to provide crypto-asset services in the EU. Bitrue does not appear in ESMA’s public register. In October 2024 its subsidiary Bitrue Lithuania UAB obtained a VASP registration with Lithuania’s FNTT — a local AML filing, not the MiCA licence itself.

Bit2Me is authorised as a MiCA CASP by the CNMV in Spain, active since 2014. Buying, custodying and exchanging crypto-assets with MiCA protections is the core of the business today, not a future goal.

Two hacks in five years: what Bitrue reimbursed and what it does not publish

Bitrue carries a security track record with two incidents documented by specialist press. In June 2019, an attacker withdrew 9.3 million XRP and 2.5 million ADA (around $4.5m); the company reimbursed affected users. In April 2023, an exploit let attackers withdraw roughly $23m in ETH and other tokens — and it again pledged to fully compensate affected users. Neither episode is accompanied by an independently published proof of reserves (PoR).

Bit2Me publishes the contrast: funds mostly in cold storage, Bit2Me Custody assets covered by a $150 million policy, zero security incidents since 2014, and ISO 27001, 27701 and 22301 certifications.

Bitrue’s flat fee, except on the very asset it is named after: XRP

Bitrue simplifies its spot fee schedule with a flat 0.098% fee on most pairs (BTC, ETH, USDT). However, pairs involving XRP pay more: 0.196% on major XRP pairs, and up to 0.280% on other XRP pairs. On futures, the fee is 0.02% maker / 0.06% taker, with leverage up to 125x.

Bit2Me Pro offers up to 0% maker / 0.10% taker on liquid pairs and free SEPA deposits, with no per-asset exceptions. Moving €1,000 at Bitrue’s 0.196% on an XRP/USDT pair costs €1.96; at Bit2Me Pro’s 0.10%, €1.

Bitrue’s 24/7 support versus the public trust score it carries

Bitrue advertises 24/7 support via chat, email and tickets. In practice, its public trust score is low: 1.5/5 on Trustpilot with over 300 verified reviews, with recurring complaints about held withdrawals, blocked KYC verification and generic replies.

Bit2Me answers with phone assistance in your language and a European team that knows SEPA, banks and CNMV rules — for routine queries it works the same as a global chat, but the day a withdrawal fails to show, being able to call a CASP with a local supervisor matters more than a slow-answering ticket and a 1.5/5 score.

Who is Bitrue for, and who is Bit2Me for?

Bitrue built its audience around the XRP ecosystem, flat fees and yield products like Power Piggy. If your trading revolves around XRP and you accept operating outside the MiCA register, Bitrue has its niche — though you pay more fees on precisely that asset.

The investor in euros in Europe who wants regulatory predictability and a local complaints channel does not need 700 tokens or 125x leverage: they need predictable cost, free SEPA, CNMV supervision and someone on the phone. Bit2Me Pro covers that profile with up to 0% maker / 0.10% taker on liquid pairs.

What switching from Bitrue to Bit2Me really costs

Withdrawing crypto from Bitrue carries the network fee the platform shows before you confirm — variable by coin and blockchain congestion. Selling to euros and sending via SEPA avoids the network fee, but the sale may trigger tax effects; moving crypto between your own accounts is not a disposal.

Bit2Me charges no SEPA deposit or account fee. Send a small amount first to validate address and network; if anything looks off, you solve it by phone in your language — an advantage hard to quantify until you need it, especially with an exchange outside the European MiCA register.

The decision

Which one to choose? It depends on your profile

Bit2Me — pros

  • CASP authorised under MiCA by the CNMV, versus a mere VASP registration in Lithuania without a MiCA licence.
  • Zero security incidents since 2014, versus two Bitrue hacks (2019 and 2023) without a published PoR.
  • Pro fees with no per-asset surcharges, versus the 0.196%–0.280% Bitrue charges on XRP pairs.
  • Guaranteed Without chat-only: multilingual support, versus Bitrue’s support with a 1.5/5 Trustpilot score.
  • A suite of over 30 European crypto products versus Bitrue’s XRP and leveraged-futures focus.

Bitrue — things to consider

  • XRP-centred ecosystem with a flat 0.098% fee on major pairs and over 700 cryptocurrencies.
  • Futures with up to 125x leverage and yield programmes like Power Piggy.
  • No MiCA authorisation in the ESMA register; only an AML VASP registration in Lithuania since 2024.
  • Two security incidents with stolen funds (2019 and 2023) and a very low public trust score.

When to choose Bitrue?

  • Your trading revolves around the XRP ecosystem and you explicitly accept the risk of an exchange without a MiCA licence.
  • You want high futures leverage (up to 125x) or a very broad catalogue of niche altcoins.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a Bitrue alternative because you care about European regulation, predictable fees, the safety of your funds and support in your language, Bit2Me addresses exactly those needs.

Frequently asked questions

Bitrue is not listed as a MiCA-authorised CASP in ESMA’s public register. Its Lithuanian subsidiary only holds a VASP (AML) registration since 2024, which is not the same as the MiCA licence the EU requires. Bit2Me is an alternative directly authorised by the CNMV in Spain, with verifiable MiCA protections.

Conclusion

Bitrue can be appealing if you want an XRP-centred ecosystem, flat fees on major pairs and high leverage on futures. But if you operate in euros in Europe and want a CASP authorised under MiCA — not a mere VASP registration —, custody with a published policy, free SEPA deposits and multilingual support, Bit2Me is the Bitrue alternative built for the regulated European investor.
