Why look for a Bitvavo alternative?

It is ten at night: your €2,000 SEPA transfer has been “processing” for hours on Bitvavo and chat replies in English — with no Without chat-only: multilingual support to call. That silence is what pushes you to look for an alternative with direct CNMV supervision and a local voice.

Bitvavo has earned its reputation: born in Amsterdam in 2018, it has become one of Europe’s largest EUR spot markets with a clear recipe: very low fees and a simple app. Comparing it with Bit2Me is not about finding faults, but about understanding which platform fits your profile best.

Both platforms are authorised under the European MiCA regulation, so regulation does not decide this comparison. What decides it is the support language, the breadth of the ecosystem and proximity to the Spanish market. Here we go through it with public, verifiable data, giving Bitvavo credit for what it does very well.

In the Netherlands, Bitvavo integrates euro deposits via iDEAL and SEPA and concentrates liquidity in EUR pairs — BTC/EUR, ETH/EUR — with an order book that moves real volume. That specialisation explains why its starting spot fee competes with global exchanges: it does not spread resources across cards, loans or tax tooling; it does one thing and does it cheaply.

What leads people to look for an alternative

Why so many people doubt Bitvavo

Without your European supervisor as contact

AFM MiCA with EU passport — formal complaints route to the Netherlands, not your European supervisor.

Without a phone line in your language

Self-service handles standard questions; human support works mainly in English and Dutch when things get complicated.

Without an ecosystem beyond spot

Bitvavo deliberately limits the catalogue — no card, Earn, loans or tax tools.

Public record

Reputation and documented facts about Bitvavo

Sanctions, incidents or controversies recorded in official sources or verifiable media. Bit2Me does not pass judgment: we cite public facts.

  1. After the FTX collapse, the Dutch supervisor (DNB) tightened oversight of local crypto providers; Bitvavo, the main Dutch exchange, operates under that strengthened framework.

    Source: dnb.nl

These records do not rule out the competitor being suitable in other contexts; they are part of the due diligence worth doing before depositing funds.

Verdict

Bitvavo is a great European exchange: authorised under MiCA by the Dutch AFM, with one of the largest EUR spot markets and very low fees. Bit2Me is authorised under the same regulation by the CNMV and adds Without chat-only: multilingual support, a suite of over 30 crypto products and a local team that knows your market. If you operate in Europe, there are good reasons to choose the Spanish option.

Why Bit2Me

Why Bit2Me lets you sleep at night

When both platforms can be regulated in Europe, the decision moves to practical trust: where you contract, who answers you, how you move euros, and how easy it is to resolve a problem.

Bit2Me complies with KYC/AML and is registered with the Bank of Spain: your operations don't mix with illicit-origin funds on a supervised platform.

Headquartered in Spain, not a tax haven

Bitcoinforme S.L. operates under European law with the CNMV as its direct supervisor.

Free, automatic tax report

Download it from the app or web for every tax year you've traded, at no extra cost. It generates itself from your activity.

No security incidents since 2014

Five consecutive independent audits back our operational soundness.

Human support in your language

24/7 support in your language, with a phone line (+34 910 91 37 88) and people — not bots — answering from Spain.

A platform that doesn't go down

Multi-region high availability, 24/7, 365 days a year, with ~100 ms average response.

Your funds, when you decide

Withdraw to your own wallet at any time. No lock-in, no penalty.

$150M insurance on custody

Assets in Bit2Me Custody are insured for $150M (USD), with segregated cold storage and multisig + HSM FIPS 140-2.

Regulation: the AFM licence and the passport Bitvavo uses to operate in Spain

Bitvavo’s paperwork is in order, and it is worth saying plainly: the AFM, the financial markets supervisor of the Netherlands, granted it its licence under MiCA, the European crypto-asset regulation. That permit carries the European passport: an authorisation obtained in one European Economic Area state entitles the holder to serve all the others, and that is exactly the mechanism through which the Amsterdam house serves its Spanish clients. The guarantees — asset segregation, solvency requirements, conduct rules — are those of the regulation, identical in every member state.

What Bit2Me changes in that equation is not the regulation but the geography: its MiCA authorisation was granted by the CNMV, so the provider’s supervisor and the Spanish investor’s natural supervisor are the same body. If one day you need to escalate a complaint, the file is handled in Spain and in Spanish; with a passported provider, that route refers back to the home authority in the Netherlands. Same European law, different distance to the counter.

Verdict: on legal strength, a draw; the AFM licence is worth the same as the CNMV’s. The latter simply sits closer to anyone investing in Europe.

Security: what Bitvavo’s custody licence covers and what figures each house brings

The licence the AFM granted Bitvavo expressly covers the custody and administration of crypto-assets: holding client funds is not a tolerated extra but an activity authorised and monitored by the Dutch supervisor. The platform, which moves one of Europe’s largest euro spot volumes, publishes its security measures on its official site. What its public pages do not specify, as of this guide, is an insurance policy with an amount assigned to that custody or security certifications with a verifiable number.

That is where Bit2Me has chosen to compete with figures: most funds are kept in cold storage (wallets with no internet connection), the assets in Bit2Me Custody carry a $150 million policy and the operation goes through independent audits — five consecutive ones — and the ISO 27001, 27701 and 22301 certifications. On top of all that sits a track record of no security incidents since 2014, four years before Bitvavo opened its doors in Amsterdam.

Verdict: Bitvavo’s custody is authorised and supervised, which is the essential part; Bit2Me’s adds figures and seals anyone can check. In security, what can be checked scores double.

Fees: Bitvavo’s 0.15/0.25 table sets the price to beat

Bitvavo’s fees page reads in a minute, and that alone says a lot: the starting spot fee is 0.15% maker / 0.25% taker — maker if your order adds liquidity to the order book, taker if it consumes it — and it steps down in tiers as the user’s monthly volume grows. Everything is published, nothing travels hidden inside the price, and that starting point is among the lowest a retail user can find in Europe today. The combination of aggressive pricing and a transparent table explains much of its weight in the euro market.

Bit2Me shares the publish-everything philosophy, with different numbers per product: simple purchases from Wallet run from 0.1% to 0.95% depending on payment method and amount — above Bitvavo’s base rate in most scenarios — while the Bit2Me Pro terminal reaches 0% maker / 0.10% taker on liquid pairs, below even the rival’s best tiers for anyone working with limit orders. SEPA transfer deposits are free, and at both houses you should add the spread (the gap between the buy and the sell price) to know the total cost.

In numbers: buying €1,000 of ETH as a taker on Bitvavo costs €2.50 in commission at 0.25% — before spread. The same trade on Bit2Me’s simple purchase at 0.95% would add €9.50; on Pro with a 0% maker order on a liquid pair, €0 commission plus the pair spread. Bitvavo wins on the fast route; Bit2Me Pro competes when you trade calmly with limit orders.

Verdict: on simple purchases Bitvavo wins, clearly and without asterisks. The game only evens out — or flips — for those trading on Pro with maker orders.

Support: Bitvavo’s self-service model and its two working languages

Bitvavo’s support fits its product: in an app that keeps its catalogue short on purpose, most questions are standard ones and a good help centre resolves them without human intervention. That self-service works well and, when escalation is needed, the service operates mainly in English and Dutch, the languages of its home market. For a client in Amsterdam or Utrecht the experience is seamless; for one in Seville it means drafting the problem in a foreign language precisely when they are least calm.

Bit2Me’s structure is heavier on purpose: a suite of more than 30 products generates queries no standard help article anticipates, which is why the local team adds to the written channels a Without chat-only: multilingual support, with Bit2Me Academy as a free training layer in the same language. Sustaining that operation costs more than a good self-service portal; the difference shows in that no procedure forces you to explain yourself in English.

Verdict: Bitvavo’s self-service is efficient for the use its product proposes; the moment a query gets complicated or language matters, the advantage changes sides.

Lowest price or a platform with a phone line: who wins with each

Bitvavo and Bit2Me represent two legitimate ways of understanding an exchange. The Dutch house stakes almost everything on two virtues — price and simplicity — and executes them outstandingly; the Spanish one prefers to surround trading with services: yield, a card, loans, tax tooling and a phone line. Neither philosophy is a mistake: the question is which one will serve you a year from now.

For someone starting out, the nuance matters more than it seems. Bitvavo’s app makes buying your first bitcoin extremely easy, and its starting rate (0.15% maker / 0.25% taker) is among the tightest in Europe. But when the first serious doubt arises — a transfer that does not show up, a stuck verification — its support works mainly in English and Dutch. At Bit2Me that same query gets solved by Without chat-only: multilingual support, with the free Academy as an educational safety net.

The recurring pure-spot buyer is the profile where Bitvavo defends its ground best: if you buy BTC or ETH every month and need nothing else, its volume-tier ladder is hard to beat, and denying it would be dishonest. The nuance, in turn: anyone trading with limit orders on Bit2Me Pro accesses 0% maker on liquid pairs, so the final outcome depends more on how you trade than on the headline of the fee table.

And then there is the user who wants more than a marketplace: earning yield with Earn, paying for coffee with a cashback Card and reaching tax season with Tax reports ready for the return. That combination simply does not exist at Bitvavo, which limits its catalogue to spot and staking by design. If you recognise yourself in this profile, the comparison stops being about price and becomes about scope.

Switching from Bitvavo: steps, costs and what you find on arrival

Let us start with the fact that honours both platforms: neither locks in your funds. Bitvavo lets you send your crypto to any external wallet, exactly like Bit2Me, so moving over — or keeping both accounts in parallel — is in your hands from day one.

In practice: sign up at Bit2Me and complete verification in a few minutes, locate the deposit address in your Wallet and launch the withdrawal from Bitvavo, which applies the fee corresponding to each network. Two details avoid nearly every scare: the departure and arrival networks must match exactly, and the first transfer is best done with a small amount to validate the route. With the right network, your funds are confirmed in minutes; the alternative — selling at Bitvavo and bringing euros via SEPA — rarely takes more than one business day.

On the other side, three things await that a Benelux platform is not designed to give you: free SEPA top-ups, support that answers the Without chat-only: multilingual support tax rules</strong> — the difference between exporting CSVs from a foreign exchange and downloading a document your tax advisor understands at first glance. All without closing your Bitvavo account: living with both while you decide costs nothing.

The decision

Which one to choose? It depends on your profile

Bit2Me — pros

  • 30+ product ecosystem vs spot+staking only.
  • Without chat-only: multilingual support vs English/Dutch-first.
  • Direct CNMV MiCA vs AFM passport service.
  • Pro 0%/0.10% and free SEPA even when Bitvavo base spot is lower.
  • Bit2Me Tax for European returns — outside Bitvavo minimalist script.

Bitvavo — things to consider

  • Regulated European exchange with very competitive fees and EUR liquidity.
  • Narrower product ecosystem; less proximity to Spanish-speaking users.

When to choose Bitvavo?

  • Absolute priority is lowest spot fee — no ecosystem or multilingual support needed.
  • You operate mainly in EUR on a Dutch-regulated exchange and rarely need products beyond spot.
  • You prioritise the lowest EUR spot fees and mainly trade EUR pairs.

If, on the other hand, you are looking for a Bitvavo alternative because you care about European regulation, predictable fees, the safety of your funds and support in your language, Bit2Me addresses exactly those needs.

What people who already switched say

Marta I. F. Cliente desde 2024

Your questions, answered

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Bitvavo is authorised under the European MiCA regulation by the Dutch AFM, with a passport to operate in Spain and the rest of the European Economic Area. The comparison with Bit2Me is not about basic safety, but about fit: Bit2Me offers the same MiCA standard with the CNMV as supervisor, insured cold-storage custody under a $150 million policy and Without chat-only: multilingual support.

Conclusion

If you only buy BTC every month and Bitvavo’s 0.25% taker is your only metric, stay — we say so plainly. If you also want Without chat-only: multilingual support, 0% maker Pro, free SEPA and tax season sorted under the CNMV, the scale tips toward Bit2Me. Opening an account is free and takes minutes.
