Diem heritage and the Move language
Aptos was created by former engineers of the Diem project (the blockchain Meta backed) and uses Move, a contract language designed for safety: it treats assets as "resources" that cannot be copied or accidentally lost, cutting out a whole class of bugs common on other chains.

Aptos’s distinctive technical feature is Block-STM, an engine that runs transactions in parallel rather than one by one, detecting conflicts and reprocessing only what is needed. Together with its fast-finality BFT consensus (under a second), it aims for high sustained throughput without sacrificing safety.

Aptos executes transactions in parallel with an engine called Block-STM, which processes many operations at once by spreading them across multiple cores and resolving conflicts afterward. In lab benchmarks that design has reached very high transactions-per-second figures; real-world throughput depends on load and network conditions.
