Stellar is a decentralised open-source network that facilitates fast and cost-effective international transfers. It uses a unique consensus algorithm called the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP). The network was initially developed by the Stellar Development Foundation, a non-profit foundation that includes companies such as IBM and Stripe, who supported the idea of Jed McCaleb, the creator of this concept.

Stellar operates on its own blockchain, the Stellar network. This network is supported by what is known as the SCP or Stellar Consensus Protocol, a high-speed consensus that enables the Stellar network to operate quickly and cost-effectively. The SCP protocol was created by David Mazieres, a well-known researcher at Stanford University.
