IOTA uses its own network called "Tangle." Tangle is an innovative data structure that acts as the heart of IOTA; it is based on a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) and allows each new transaction on the network to be added to the end of the graph, linked to two previous transactions, confirming them. In turn, future transactions will connect to this new transaction, creating an interconnected network of validations. This network is what is known as "Tangle."

IOTA is a distributed ledger technology (DLT) designed for the Internet of Things (IoT). Instead of a traditional blockchain, it uses a data structure called "Tangle." Unlike other blockchain projects, Tangle is not a blockchain, but a type of data structure known as a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) that securely stores information on the IOTA network.

IOTA is a cryptocurrency that has a very specific niche as it is focused on the IoT sector. However, this is set to change with the arrival of IOTA EVM and its ability to execute Ethereum smart contracts, which will enhance the network's capabilities. As a result, the IOTA token could see a significant revaluation that allows it to reach €1 or more (currently, it is valued at €0.1 and its all-time high in 2017 was €5.32).

Currently, there is a fixed total and circulating supply of approximately 3.325 billion MIOTA.

It was founded by David Sønstebø, Sergey Ivancheglo, Dominik Schiener, and Dr. Serguei Popov in 2015.
